Sitting In My Car

Sitting In My Car

One of my favorite things to do is sit in my car and scroll on my phone before work. Sometimes after work. Actually it doesn’t have to be before or after work, anytime sitting in my car is good. And I don’t have to be scrolling on my phone either! Driving in my car is good too for that matter.

I guess you could say my car is one of my favorite places to be. It helps that it’s a newer car. Not brand new. It’s a 2019 Ford fusion. So nothing fancy. But it’s the only car that I’ve ever bought brand new and it has all the bells and whistles that I need. I loved the car from the moment I stepped inside.

When I bought the car, I’d never owned a brand new car. I wasn’t planning on buying a new car. I was looking for something that was moderately used, in good condition. I thought I’d found one in a 2014 Ford Fusion. I test drove it and had almost decided to buy it. Until I got back to the car lot and saw her sitting there…

She was a new,  never owned before, 2019 Ford Fusion in denim blue. Not a color I’d considered but when I saw it, I couldn’t look away. I had to at least test drive it! The sales person tried to tell me I shouldn’t, because if I did, I’d want to buy it. He was right.

After I got back from the test drive, I said, “What will it take to take this car home?”

He laughed and started the process of getting me that car.

I named her Bowie. Why? Because the color was denim blue. Denim is the color of blue jeans. The song, Blue Jean, is sung by David Bowie. Thus, my new car was named Bowie.

I love the fact that I can play Spotify in my car easily. I can listen to whatever kind of music I want. Or if I’m on a car trip, I plug in audible and listen to a book. I can even dictate a blog post from my car. Which is what I’m doing right now. Thanks to technology, there are a lot of things people can do in their cars.

Sometimes I sing to myself. I’m a horrible singer and I wouldn’t make anybody else listen to me. But I do love music. And certain songs I can’t help but sing to. I love the song treat myself by Meghan Trainor. I can sing that song over and over again. I love old school rock and roll. A little bit of AC/DC. Some kiss. Some 70 music that I know all the lyrics to. Especially Fleetwood Mac. And I can sing these songs as loud as I want when I’m in my car and nobody is around to complain.

Sometimes I’ll turn on the dictation on my phone and talk out loud. Mostly when I have things that I’m working through. A lot of it is just rambling and I usually end up deleting it. But sometimes I save it because it is potentially fodder for a blog post or it might be a story idea. Other times, like I said I’m just working things out. So I’m talking to myself. And then I read it later and I’m like, girl you are just over the top. And then I laugh and delete it.

And in my car, there are no rules. I eat whatever I want.

There are definitely no food rules. Most of the time I drink my coffee black. I don’t feel that I really need sugar or cream. However, when I’m driving, I need Tim Hortons coffee and it has to be a double double. Sugar be damned. I can also eat chocolate, chips, and any other take-out food that I want.

I think that everyone should have a safe place. It can be their home but it can also be a restaurant, their work, a friend’s house, a hotel, or even a car.

Where is your safe space?
