6 Ways to Be More Interesting and Make More Friends

Do you ever feel you could be more interesting and have more friends? If so, you’re not alone!

Everyone has their own story. And whether you know it or not, your story is interesting!

The trick to becoming more interesting is to find common ground with others. When you find that common ground, it is easier to be an engaging conversationalist.

#1 Get out of your comfort zone

One of the best ways to become a more interesting person and make more friends is to get out of your comfort zone. Being comfortable in your own skin is important, but it’s also important to challenge yourself and try new things. This will not only make you a more interesting person, but it will also help you make more friends.

When you’re out of your comfort zone, you’re often forced to learn and grow as a person. This can be anything from trying a new cuisine to joining a club or organization. It might be scary at first, but the feeling of accomplishment once you’ve tried something new is rewarding. You may even make some great friends along the way.

Getting out of your comfort zone is also a great way to learn more about yourself. Trying something new can help you uncover new passions or interests that you never knew you had. It can also help open up new opportunities in your life, which could lead to even more friendships.

Some of my best experiences (and friendships!) have come from doing things that initially made me uncomfortable. I’m not talking about unsafe things like taking rides with strangers.

For example, when I was in my early twenties, I was living in a small town with my mom. I was bored. My job wasn’t anything special. So, when a friend invited me to come and be her roommate in the city, there was no reason not to do it. I was scared, but I packed up my belongings and my cat and drove 500 miles to go and live with her!

It turned out to be a great experience! I tried a new job, I got to meet so many new people, and I had different experiences that I never would have had if I’d stayed where I was comfortable.

#2 Talk to people you don’t know

If you want to be more interesting and make more friends, talking to people you don’t know is a must. It may sound scary, but it can be fun and rewarding! When you talk to someone new, introduce yourself and ask them how their day is going.

Ask questions and show genuine interest in what they have to say. Keep the conversation light-hearted and don’t be afraid to laugh or tell a joke. Don’t worry if the conversation doesn’t last long; it’s ok to move on after a few minutes of polite chit-chat. Talking to people you don’t know can open up opportunities for potential friendships and great experiences.

#3 Be confident

When it comes to being interesting and making friends, confidence is key. No one wants to be around someone who is constantly doubting themselves or second-guessing their decisions. You want to be the type of person that people look up to, so it’s important to project a positive attitude and self-assurance.

It’s okay to make mistakes, but don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. Believe in yourself, and others will follow suit.

When talking to people, stand up tall and make sure you maintain eye contact. Even if you’re feeling nervous, try your best to smile and be friendly.

Everyone loves someone who exudes confidence and positivity, so make sure to show off your winning personality.

Finally, don’t forget to show your appreciation for the people around you. A few kind words can go a long way, so make sure you thank the people you meet for their time and company.

#4 Be yourself

The most important thing to remember when trying to be more interesting and make more friends is to be yourself. People often think that they have to act differently or “put on a show” in order to be interesting. But the truth is that people are most attracted to authenticity.

Be confident in who you are and don’t be afraid to express yourself. It is important to be open-minded and accepting of others, but also to stay true to your own values and opinions. When you are open and honest about who you are, people are more likely to take an interest in you and be drawn to your personality.

When you are comfortable in your own skin, it allows you to relax and be genuine. People will appreciate your sincerity and your ability to communicate clearly. Being yourself helps to foster strong connections with others, which can lead to lasting friendships.

So don’t be afraid to be you! Show the world the unique person that you are and don’t be afraid to let your true self shine through.

#5 Listen more than you talk

One of the best ways to become more interesting and make more friends is to listen more than you talk. By listening, you’ll be able to get a better understanding of who people are and what they have to say. You’ll also gain valuable insights into their opinions, thoughts, and ideas. People like it when you take the time to actually listen to them and take an interest in their stories.

When talking with someone, take pauses and really absorb what they’re saying. Ask clarifying questions that show you understand their perspective and help you better understand what they’re trying to convey. If you ask the right questions, people will appreciate your curiosity and openness.

It’s also important to show genuine interest in what other people have to say by responding with thoughtful comments and questions. Showing respect for their opinions will help build rapport and trust. When people trust you, they are more likely to open up and share interesting stories with you that can lead to deeper connections and long-lasting friendships.

By listening more than you talk, you’ll demonstrate that you’re open-minded and considerate. This will give people the impression that you’re an interesting person worth getting to know. When people think of you as an interesting person, it makes it easier for them to be interested in being friends with you.

#6 Ask questions

One of the best ways to be more interesting and make more friends is to ask questions. Asking questions shows that you are interested in getting to know people, as well as providing an opportunity for them to talk about themselves.

Don’t just stick to the small talk; get to know someone on a deeper level by asking meaningful questions. Try to ask open-ended questions that require more than a yes or no answer so that the conversation can flow. For example, instead of asking “What do you do for work?”, try “What inspired you to pursue your current career?” Asking questions is also a great way to learn more about yourself and others.
